Honest, compassionate counseling for adults burdened by anxiety, trauma, or other life challenges.
Katherine Silvey Bates, LPC
Safely process acute and chronic trauma
Acute and chronic, past and present, big and small - trauma affects us all. Through empirically supported interventions including EMDR, cognitive behavioral and psychodynamic therapy, somatic work, and more, you will “walk through the muck,” the hard but worthwhile process of dulling trauma’s power and liberating yourself from its weight.
Mitigate anxiety, OCD, and worry
Anxiety manifests in many ways: panic, obsessive thoughts or compulsive behaviors, or an endless drone of negative worry about things long past or likely never to happen. It can be annoying or debilitating, and difficult to “turn off.” With evidence-based tools and therapy methods, you will learn how to take back control from your anxiety.
Recognize and build your self-worth
Negative self beliefs about value and worth are a common and prevalent issue. Even when you logically know you’re worthwhile, your deeply-rooted beliefs may be thwarting you. Through traditional talk therapy methods, EMDR, and more, you will begin to recognize your worthiness and develop pride and appreciation for yourself in surprising and transformative ways.
Improve communications and relationships
Everyone brings their unique communication style to each interpersonal interaction and these styles don’t always align. A relationship begins with each individual involved. Together, we explore your established communication skills, deficits, and patterns, all critical to fostering intimacy, connection, and satisfaction in every relationship.
Work through fears about health, career, change, and the future
Low motivation, self-doubt, and fear of the unknown are common reasons clients give when they feel stuck or are not yet taking proactive steps toward a more fulfilling life. If you’re struggling to move forward in an area of your life, a great first step is therapy to figure out why you’re stuck and what it takes to propel you forward.
Talk openly about everything
Sometimes all you need is someone to listen; someone to validate your emotional responses to your experiences and bear witness to your life with empathy. Talk uninterrupted, be vulnerable, explore yourself, vent, and celebrate your wins with active listening, existential, client-centered, and psychodynamic therapies, and compassion. All without agenda, bias, or judgment.
